Hi all my t4 2.4d nonturbo has developed a whine that speeds up with engine speeds
i have checked the alternator output this is 12.8v off 14v engine running
are there vacuum hoses that could cause this noise i am going to change the fan belt and pulley as this i believe can cause this any advice please as it is doing my head in

wheel bearings have been known to whine when about to give up the ghost

also from experience exhaust manifold can whistle and whine if blown and gets partly clogged with dirt and oil as it will act like a whistle

does it whine only whine driving?
or
does it also do it when idling?

if only when driving it could be a bearing or exhaust fan belt (although fan belt would only be when engine gets hot

if all the time i would imagine your close and it would be a belt or pully
